ARTISTS and ENTERTAINERS

On most Saturday evenings (7 pm until 9 pm) Cafe' Kolache plays host to a variety of local musical and literary talent;  also, authors and visual artists have been available in the mornings and/or afternoons  to sign copies of and discuss their recent projects.

In addition to this Saturday night's entertainment, listed below are brief observations about those entertainers, authors and poets who have performed in the past and whom most likely will return for future performances.

OPEN "MIC" NIGHTS

About every six weeks local talented musicians and vocalists perform for their family, friends and cafe' customers.  Cafe Kolache's OPEN "MIC" NIGHT is hosted by John Goberesh ("Distractions" band member/vocalist) and Tiffany Eckert.  Before and in between artists, John and Tiffany share their gifted voices, music and comical dialogue.

If you've been hiding your talent under a bushel, but have a desire to perform in public, we invite you to sign up as one of the evenings entertainers.  Numerous "artists" have entertained an enthusiastic and respectful audience; these are especially enjoyable nights!

Depending upon the number of  entertainers who sign-up, each "artist" is asked to perform from 1 to 3 numbers.  OPEN "MIC" NIGHT is from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

                                         Tiffani Eckhart

"Wow" and "double wow ". . . . . from country to pop, Tiffani's vocals continue to stir the music in our soul.  We are grateful for the opportunity to have her level of talent perform at Cafe' "K".  In addition, on this evening she introduced us to Carly (see below) . . . with whom she graciously shared the "mic" .

The "New" Tiffani . . after two years in Nashville.  A new look and a great medley of songs  inspired by artists such as Billie Holiday, Diana Ross, Martina McBride and eventually Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole.  WELCOME HOME TIFFANI!

                                                 Carly Koza

What a privilege it was to hear this young artist.  Although her youth was obvious, this "small" detail  became irrelevant as she presented a masterful interpretation of songs from Broadway; finishing with a rendition of  "A Time to Say Goodbye" that  I'm sure would meet the approval of Sarah Brightman herself.

Great job Carly!  Your wholesome demeanor and natural talent  was appreciated by everyone.  Keep up the hard work!  We at Cafe' Kolache will be following your career closely and look forward to your return.  Also, a big thanks to Tiffani and to your parents for sharing you with us.

Carly . . four years later and still a hit with the crowd at Cafe Kolache.

ARTIST and/or GROUP OBSERVATIONS

              John Goberesh & Tiffany Eckert

The duo of Tiffany and John not only serve as the host performers for Open Mic Night, but also are accomplished musicians in their own right.  Their complimentary style makes for easy and enjoyable listening.

                               The Distractions

Hey folks, what a great way to be "Distracted" (from the speed-bumps  in the course of our day) . . . From song one, these guys will have you swaying-to-the-music and thoroughly engaged in the moment with their strumming, harmony and "Happy days are here again!" style.

                                       "One BIG Dakota"

Accomplished musicians all . . . . Julie Walsh (Vocals), her husband John (Bass), Jeff DeSantis (Guitar) and Ray Smith (percussion) are four talented individuals who provide a complete performance.   Borrowing from the music of Alison Krauss, The Beatles, Jonatha Brooke and others, their renditions are polished and out-of-the-box ready to hear. After listening to their first selection  the audience knows they are in for an evening of solid entertainment by some of the best talent in the Valley.

                               XARA (Car-ah)

Recent winners of the Pittsburgh Acoustic Singer/Songwriter challenge, XARA (Car-ah) is an up-and-coming band that has a unique sound and is becoming a regular at Cafe' Kolache.  Mixing blues, folk, rock, world and alt-country, XARA's variety includes 20 original songs and over 80 covers.  The band members are Steve Vesolich (Vocals and guitar), Charlie Modro (Djembe drums) and Aubrey Pickering (Cello).....a trio that is truly a Treat!

NOTICE TO ALL XARA FANS!  Xara, has just completed their first CD titled "Beggar's Cup".  Why not pick up a copy?

                                        Betty Douglas

Local artist, singer and keyboard player,  Ms. Douglas has performed extensively throughout the "Valley" and has been a featured singer with the Terry Hawkins Jazz ensemble.  Her style is "torchey", embellished with  jazz and influenced by music of the big band and earlier era.

Educated in the visual arts as well, some of her photographs are hung on our Gathering Room's walls.  A more complete view of her artistic works can be viewed at www.douglasartgallery.com

Mario Cafrelli

Mario's license plate reads, "Crooner"!  During his act he pays homage to Bobby Darren, Tony Bennett, "The King" (Elvis Presley) and especially to the singing members of the "Rat-Pack" (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis).

Mario is an ardent devotee of  music from an era that demanded strong melody, discriminating harmony, masterful instrumentation and lyrical timing; he entertains with an enthusiasm and appreciation for the artists who provided the nation with some of our most memorable music.

Samson Covatch

Samson performs on the Chapman Stick; a unique instrument that sounds somewhat like an electric guitar.

                            Brian Taylor and Bruce Enck

Join us at Cafe Kolache to experience the guitars and vocal harmonies of Pittsburgh's newest acoustic duo.

Brian and Bruce have a wealth of music experience between them.  The pair first joined forces in 2001 as the guitar and vocal front-men for the local rock group Plan B, but have since focused their love of music on acoustic songwriting and developing new renditions of favorite rock songs and popular tunes.

Teresa Bagamery

Teresa Bagamery, Beaver County's Poet Laureate, performed for individuals with interests channeled toward poetry and prose.  The customers were treated to a variety of Teresa's literary works.   In addition, Teresa donated her talent by writing the Poem, "Cafe' Kolache", that describes her observations while sitting in The Cafe'. You can read her poem by Clicking Here!

Val Brkich

Cafe Kolache was the host for local author  Val Brkich.  Val is seen signing a copy of his book Cageball, Poker and the Atomic Wedgie: A Tale of Catholic School Antics.

Copies can be purchased at Cafe' Kolache.
